How to Make Dinosaur Tea

  1. Steep the tea: Add the green tea to a dinosaur-shaped tea infuser. Pour the boiling water into the cup with the infuser. Let the tea steep for two to three minutes.

  2. Flavor: Remove the tea infuser. If desired, sweeten with honey or add lemon juice to taste.

To Make Ahead: Dinosaur tea is perfect for making ahead. Just steep the tea, let it cool to room temperature, and refrigerate. When you’re ready, add a few ice cubes and a slice of lemon, and enjoy icy-cold dinosaur iced tea. Your iced tea will last for up to four days in the refrigerator

To Freeze: Use any leftover dinosaur tea to create tea-flavored ice cubes. Pour the tea into an ice cube mold and freeze. The frozen tea will stay fresh for up to three months. Use them in cold beverages, smoothies, or as a dessert.

Recipe Variations for Dinosaur Tea

Coconut tea: Replace the green tea with coconut-flavored black tea. Steep as usual and sweeten with honey.

Mint tea: Swap the green tea for peppermint tea. Steep in boiling water and a teaspoon of lemon juice.

Citrus tea: Use orange pekoe tea instead of green tea. Steep in hot water and add a squeeze of fresh orange juice.

Ginger tea: Use ginger instead of green tea leaves. Steep in boiling water, add a slice of fresh ginger, and sweeten with honey. A lemon slice is optional. 

Vanilla tea: Brew vanilla rooibos tea instead of green tea. Steep in boiling water and sweeten with a teaspoon of honey and half a teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Berry tea: Infuse your tea with mixed berry herbal tea bags. Steep in boiling water, add a handful of fresh berries, and sweeten with honey.

Lemon-lime twist: For a tangy treat, use lemon-lime herbal tea. Steep it in hot water, add a squeeze of lemon and lime juice and sweeten to taste.

Peachy tea: Substitute the green tea with peach-flavored white tea. Steep in boiling water and sweeten with honey.

Hibiscus tea: Brew hibiscus tea bags for a vibrant and floral alternative. Steep in hot water and sweeten with honey.

Chai infusion: Replace the green tea with chai tea bags for a spiced twist. Steep in boiling water, add a splash of milk, and sweeten with honey.

Equipment

Ingredients 

  • 1 tsp loose green tea
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • honey to taste, optional
  • lemon juice to taste, optional

Instructions 

  • Add the green tea to tea infuser.
  • Pour the boiling water over your tea into a cup.
  • Let the tea steep for 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove the tea infuser.
  • If desired, sweeten with honey or add lemon juice to taste.

Notes

  • Adding honey: Stir honey well into hot tea to ensure it dissolves completely for balanced sweetness. Start with half a teaspoon of honey and adjust to taste. 
  • Adjust lemon juice: Add the lemon juice half a teaspoon at a time to get the perfect tartness without overpowering the tea.
  • Infuser removal tip: Gently lift the infuser out of the cup and let it drip until the flow of tea slows down. Transfer it to a plate to cool down. Don’t burn yourself with the hot tea. 
  • Enjoy promptly: Dinosaur tea tastes best when enjoyed fresh. Sip and savor immediately after preparation for the best flavor.
