How to Make Toilet Roll Dinosaurs

To make the diplodocus:

  1. Sketch the dinosaur: Flatten the toilet paper roll. Sketch the diplodocus as shown in the photo.

  2. Shape it: Cut it out with scissors. Fold the tail and head down, as shown in the photo.

  3. Decorate: Paint and decorate.

To make the triceratops:

  1. Sketch the dinosaur: Flatten the toilet paper roll. Sketch the triceratops (body and head) as shown in the photos above. 
  2. Shape it: Cut it out with scissors. Fold the tail down. Fold the neck down. Point the horns back up towards the sky. Cut two slits for the horns in the separate head and then slide it onto the horns to form the head.
  3. Decorate: Paint and decorate.

Total Time: 1 hour

Materials 

  • toilet paper rolls
  • scissors
  • paint and paintbrush
  • black permanent marker

Instructions 

  • To make the diplodocus, flatten the toilet paper roll.
  • Sketch the diplodocus as shown on the photo.
  • Cut it out with scissors.
  • Fold the tail and head down as shown on the photo.
  • Paint and decorate.
  • To make the triceratops, flatten the toilet paper roll.
  • Sketch the triceratops (body and head) as shown on the photo.
  • Cut it out with scissors.
  • Fold the tail down.
  • Fold the neck down.
  • Point the horns back up towards the sky.
  • Fold the head horizontally.
  • Cut 2 slits for the horns and then place onto the horns to form the head.
  • Paint and decorate.

Notes

  • Crafting tip: For added texture, try using textured paints or adding small, textured materials like sand or glitter to your dinosaur designs. You can also crumble and smooth the toilet roll back out for a scale-like appearance. 
  • Create more than dinosaurs: Create a prehistoric landscape by adding natural elements like small painted rocks, dried leaves glued to a stick, or toilet roll trees. 
  • Dinosaur upgrade: To make your dinosaurs stand out, add googly eyes or small beads for an extra touch of personality. Attach small pieces of cardboard or paper hinges to their limbs to make them movable.
  • Decoration tip: Add a touch of realism by researching dinosaur patterns and adding them to your designs for authenticity.
