Storing and Freezing Instructions

To Store: Put the decorated donuts in a cardboard box. Keep them at room temperature for up to three days. Do not refrigerate, as the cold, moist air will cause the fondant to become sticky.

To Freeze: Undecorated donuts can be frozen for up to three months. Simply put them in a zip lock bag and freeze. To use, thaw them overnight, add the glaze and dinosaur fondant, and serve.

Recipe Variations for Dinosaur Donuts

Fruity twist: Top glazed donuts with diced pineapple, mango, and kiwi. Press gently into the glaze to get them to stick.

Vanilla glaze: You can substitute white chocolate glaze with vanilla glaze. Simply mix powdered sugar with a bit of milk and vanilla extract until smooth.

Notes

    • Handling fondant: When cutting fondant for dinosaur decorations, knead it to make it pliable and work quickly to prevent drying out. If it starts to dry before you’re done, lightly cover it with a damp cloth.
    • Glazing tip: Ensure donuts are completely cooled before attempting to glaze them. Even the slightest heat will cause the glaze to melt off. Patience here guarantees a perfect finish.
    • Glaze consistency: Adjust glaze thickness by adding more oil for a thinner consistency or more chocolate for a thicker one. Aim for a smooth, dipable texture.
    • Sprinkling tip: Put the sprinkles on a plate, dip the donuts in the glaze, and then push the glazed donuts onto the sprinkles to cover them evenly in sprinkles.
    • Storage tip: Leftover donuts can be stored in a cardboard box or a breathable container at room temperature for up to three days. Enjoy them fresh or lightly microwave them for a warm treat.
    • Experiment: Feel free to experiment with different colors and shapes for your fondant decorations and glaze.
